About The Tire Hanger
As with any new useful product, it was borne out of need. For more than 80 years we have been lifting cars to a comfortable working height, removing the tires and putting them back on the ground. With the average tire/wheel combination weighing in at an average 70 pounds, performing inspections and rotations several times a day results in thousands of pounds of lifting a day.
Roy Starling began looking for solution for this problem nearly 15 years ago. Nine years ago he developed a working idea. He immediately partnered up us a long time business associate and friend, Anthony Gibson.
Their first endeavor was to prove to the skeptics that using the Tire Hanger would reduce the physical strain of heavy lifting and develop a safer working environment for Technicians. Together they funded an ergonomic study by Ira Janowitz, phd.dds.irs, from the Ergonomics department of the University of Berkeley. His conclusions were in short that using the Tire Hanger would substantially reduce the back and leg strain on the Technician.(ergo study) This study became of interest to N.I.O.S.H. because it was obvious that Federal workplace standards were being ignored in the Automotive trade. End result was N.I.O.S.H. performing there own investigation and came to the same conclusion. There is current legislation that will address this situation in the near future.
Roy and Anthony took the Tire Hanger to lift manufactures believing that they would be interested in reducing workplace related injuries to their clients, but, as all large corporations they move very slowly. Realizing that acceptance by lift manufactures was taking too long, they went straight to Service Managers, Fixed Op. Managers across the country, the result were overwhelming. It didn’t take long to decide if it was better to lift the tire or not to lift the tire.
End result is a fast changing, safer and ergonomically correct working environment for the Automotive Technicians. Using the Tire Hanger will reduce back and leg strain, resulting in fewer lower back and leg injuries, on the job, safer work environment and last but certainly not least, a positive visual impact on your customer when you show them you are a class operation.
